GoToMyPc – the fastest and easiest way to access your PC from anywhere…

Monday, July 13th, 2009
Recently I came across one very interesting application “GoToMyPc” being advertised on Linkedin.

GoToMyPC is a technology that was acquired by a Citrix a few years ago and represents Citrix Online “Remote Access Services” product-line. It enables users to remote control their PC’s from any internet-connected computer using a web-browser. It also allows transferring files between an original machine and the one you use for the access.

Although I have an experience with another Citrix product “GoToMeeting” I was very surprised with simplicity and quickness of the service. After several minutes I successfully connected to my PC and transfer some data back and forth.

Using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) as a main tool to remotely connect to our corporate network I clearly understand that VPN is the main solution for true remote network connectivity, but sometimes I face inconviniences with slow operational speed and blocking policy from corporate networks, internet cafes and WiFi spots. And although I've read several articles trumpeting that remote access solutions like GoToMyPc are not secure enough I still hope GoToMyPC can be a good easy-to-use solution for small business and individuals providing reliable remote access to their PCs. One good example might be a community or family “helpdesk”, when a technical specialist (or relative) would be able to resolve technical problems by remotely connect to required PC from his home.

I also tried to mention some other benefits here:

Fast and easy access to files stored on office/home PC – sometimes, not being able to foresee everything we have an immediate need to pull some information from our desktop
Accessing applications installed on work/home PC – as long as we have complex desktop applications storing sensitive data only in one place (due to security reasons) we need a solution to access applications from other sites.
Easy-to-useness – to familiarize yourself with GoToMyPc you’ll need just several minutes, so there is no staff trainings required
Serviceable remote support – with GoToMyPc it is a very easy to provide a remote support or consulting

Citrix's GoToMyPC has received several popular Ultimate and Editors’ Choices Awards from popular tech magazines. Three years in a row GoToMyPC has been named the Ultimate Choice in remote access software.

Dear Friends and Readers!

In this entry I'd like to share an information not directly related with the main subject of this blog which is latest news and updates from Information Technology, Software Application Development and IT Outsourcing spheres, but the news related to the blog itself and its authors.

As I represent Ukrainian IT outsourcing provider I belongs to IT community and try to keep up with industry evolution. Exploring large amount of information every day I am trying to share most relevant findings with other professionals by providing natural and independent information covering various IT subjects. As my company, Mirasoft Group, was founded in 1989 by the group of scientists of the Kiev Institute of Cybernetics (leading research institute of National Academy of Science where the first computer in continental Europe was built :), it remains the oldest one among East European IT companies employing specialists with more than 20 years of experience in IT sphere. Cooperation with such experts gives me a deep insight on many problems and challenges in IT industry. Attending numerous technical seminars organized by global power-houses and possessing years of development expertise our R&D experts helping me to cover very actual and complex subjects for today's IT world thereby attracting other respected professionals to join our discussions in world's leading communities and networks (Linkedin, Ecademy, Facebook, Plaxo etc). Receiving such a great support from my technical colleagues I am always so proud to write entries from our whole company, Mirasoft Group, mentioning all professionals stayed behind and contributing to our work.

However, due to recent merger of our company with one well-established European IT Network - Levi9 Global Sourcing we need to integrate and operate under one brand which is already connecting development centers and delivery operations throughout Europe. By uniting with other professionals from various areas under one roof we’ll try to integrate our knowledge and expertise in various technology fields for readers' benefit. Combining our strong expertise in Microsoft domain with Levi9 Global Sourcing multiple competence knowledge, including Java, SAP, Progress and Compuware we’ll work hard to keep you updated about latest innovations and software releases from leading Software and Technology powerhouses.

The main focus of our blogs as well as our commitment to provide independent and natural information about IT sector will remain. We just continue to inform you under Levi9 brand – globalization, you know…

Microsoft starts to work on Windows 8

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009
With approaching of Windows 7 on the offer there are some questions arise whether Windows 7 will be the last Microsoft traditional operation system. And will the next version of Windows be completely cloud-based?

So what's the next? Windows 8, of course, and Microsoft has posted several job listings for developers to help with work on Windows 8, however in can have another naming by the time its launched. There is an example of those listings:

“For the upcoming version of Windows, new critical features are being worked on including cluster support and support for one way replication. The core engine is also being reworked to provide dramatic performance improvements. We will also soon be starting major improvements for Windows 8 where we will be including innovative features which will revolutionize file access in branch offices.”

It looks like Microsoft already works hard on the new storage technology "Distributed File System Replication", which is focused on keeping data synchronized across multiple servers. And another Windows 8 job posting focusing on Windows file system tells that Windows 8 Server will also show up.
